Erwood, The Skreen. A true dream come true
Waking up in the village of Erwood on May 5th was Sean’s dream. Sean and his father Bob ‘The Skipper’ Erwood made plans to visit before The Skipper unexpectedly passed away. This year marks 10 years since he passed and Sean wanted to wake up in Erwood on his father’s birthday and we did. This trip has been magical and thanks to David and Julie we will never forget it

The Skreen: An oasis of calm tranquillity.
The Skreen is a beautifully restored manor house situated in the Wye valley, just outside of the historic market town of Builth Wells. On the approach you are greeted by the sweeping return of the gravel drive, leading into the well-tended lawn and gardens, all of which frame the surrounding landscape to perfection, capped off by the Black Mountains in the distance. The reception and main hallway are the first inkling of the exceptionally high standards you can expect throughout the property. This second only to the very warm welcome from your hosts, David and Julie. The dining hall is a sublime mix of old and new, beautifully blended to provide a comfortable and stylish room full of curios and personal touches. Expect a sumptuous spread at breakfast, the full Welsh is heartily recommended, well-prepared and served with convivial conversation by your hosts. The Green Room is nothing less than a lesson in sartorial elegance. Wonderfully positioned to overlook the lawn and gardens, with a décor that is worthy of a high-end London boutique. The curated furniture and furnishings are well presented in a clean and comfortable way. This is style with, not over, substance. If you do want to venture out The Skreen is ideally located for walking or cycling in the stunning scenery or to visit local towns such as Hay on Wye and Foyles at Glasbury is fabulous for dinner. A 2 night stay simply was not enough to fully appreciate this oasis of calm tranquillity – we have already booked to come back and stay longer!

Beautiful and quiet location…nice and spacious rooms We stayed a couple of nights visiting family in the area. I would say make every effort to stay here if you get the chance. Had family stop by and they only live 20 minutes away and plan to stay there they were so taken by it beauty and location. We will make it our go to next time were in town. David was a great host and sorry we missed Julie. As a BnB goes this one is probably a cut above the rest from what we saw and experienced.

Absolutely outstanding, the level of finish and attention to detail on every level was second to none. The location is breathtaking , David and Julie are so welcoming and warm and the property is of the highest level. The breakfast was excellent. If you take the walk up to the view point and look down into the valley it is so worth it. I find it very hard to find fault as my partner and i thought it was superb and look forward to going back.Only thing i can say is we had a standard double bed and we are used to a king so found that did not suit us, but we took last available room which happened to have a double where as other rooms have king size beds. The bed gave us the best sleep ever.
Fantastic location far from the main road and thus quiet and clean air. Surrounded by forest.
Julie and David are Fantastic hosts and must be amongst the golden standard of HOSTING.
This hotel is more a home and has been beautifully decorated and modernised.
I felt it was like being in a National Trust property.

Well where do I start! The Skreen is an amazing place to stay, our two night stay was simply incredible, relaxing and comfortable and could not be faulted in any way at all!
The house is absolutely beautiful, both rooms we booked were spotlessly clean and the decor is superb.
The breakfast was excellent, we will definitely be returning, in fact I am trying to book again as I write this. The hosts David and Julie are exceptional, they were so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. I have stayed in lots of places over the decades and none are as good as this!

LOVED EVERYTHING!! The room was exactly like the photo, the bathroom was spaceous and the house was incredible! The bed was incredibly comfortable and the shower was lovely! The owners were amazing, friendly, attentive and accommodating. The breakfast was delicious!!

From the moment we arrived, I knew I had made the perfect choice for my partner’s birthday weekend. The property is set in beautiful surroundings & is everything you could wish for & more. Exceptionally clean & with stunning home decor like something from the Ideal Home magazine, you will not be disappointed. The hosts, Julie & David, are a lovely couple, with a good local knowledge & go the extra mile to make you feel relaxed & at home. We stayed in the Orange King room, which was spacious & the bed was so comfortable, but all the rooms are equally as stunning in their own individual way. David cooks a delicious breakfast too! Highly recommended & we will definitely be returning to this exceptional B&B.

My partner and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago and what a find! The rooms were out of this world with maximum comfort and great facilities. The hosts couldn’t do enough for us and the views are something money can’t buy! Would highly recommend to anyone who is wanting a quiet getaway. Also a great base location for anyone wanting to go out and explore wales!

I stayed at this beautiful place during a visit to Wales. As we drove onto the drive we were immediately impressed by the vast parking area and wonderful views. The hosts Julie and David were such warm and clearly experienced hosts who made us feel so welcome upon arrival. The house looked amazing but we were shown our room and we were blown away. Beautiful room, beautiful brand new en-suite which provided a luxurious environment.
The bed which is always important was the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Luxury bedding and honestly so very comfortable. We were so impressed even more when we came down the next morning for a full English breakfast with a gorgeous fire to enhance our experience. The food was amazing and the service. It set us up for the day.

A beautiful & welcoming place to stay in a tranquil location. My wife & I came for the weekend to climb Pen Y Fan, something that has been on our bucket list for many years. The full English breakfast set us up perfectly for a days hiking and David & Julie were the perfect hosts. Will return soon.

We had the pleasure of staying at The Skreen for a couple of nights in The Orange Sycamore room and our only disappointment was spending just two nights there. It was simply wonderful. Our room was 5 star, the rest of the house is beautiful and very tastefully decorated, breakfast was delicious, the scenery outstanding at any time of year and our hosts the most helpful and welcoming we could wish for. We’d highly recommend The Skreen and can’t wait to return again soon.
